UPCOMING IO CONVENTION – SEPTEMBER

We are pleased to send our President, the six delegates elected by the membership at our last local election, along with myself to the International Convention in San Diego, CA, this September. We look forward to the discussions and decisions our members will participate in, which will help shape the future of our local and all IBEW locals.

PICNIC AT THE ZOO – LOOK OUT FOR THE INVITE

Invites will be headed your way later this month please be sure to send in your RSVP by the date listed on the invite. Since this event is at a new location and it is a gated area, you will need to submit your name for entry. Please note since it is at the zoo, they do have a list of prohibited items you may find on their website. We hope to see you there on October 3rd.

NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION

We had a full house at our last New Member Orientation in July, and we hope to see many new faces again for our next scheduled class on October 20th here at the IBEW Sacramento Hall. Please note that if you reside in the Redding or Chico area you will complete this class with John Roden. We encourage you to bring your spouse/significant other to this event as we provide a lot of information that is beneficial to all parties. Reminders will be sent via email a week prior to the scheduled class.

VOLT – CALL TO ACTION

Although VOLT had a strong head start and it has slowed down a bit we are hoping to call to action for our VOLT members and the support of other IBEW who may be looking to be involved with upcoming political events. We will be ramping up again and hope to count on our members once again to show out and show up. Please contact Tyler Kaercher (tkaercher@ibewlocal340.org or 916-809-0077) or Erin Teague (eteague@ibewlocal340.org or 916-801-6056) for more information on how you can help out your local on the upcoming elections.

NEBF – RETIREE TEMPORARY RETURN TO WORK NOTICE

To help with the Journeyman Inside Wireman and Sound & Communication Installer manpower shortage that all IBEW Locals are experiencing, NEBF has once again changed the working rules for Retirees. If you are currently retired and would like to go back to work for about 3 months or perhaps take some short calls, this temporary Return to Work Amendment changes the suspension rules for certain eligible retirees. Following are the features of the amendment:

  1. The temporary amendment is effective from January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026.
  2. All normal and early retirees with a pension effective date of December 2025 or earlier will be permitted to return to covered and contributory employment only and will be permitted to work for up to 600 hours during the above period without a loss of NEBF benefits. This amendment applies only to the NEBF Plan. (In order to receive benefits from other funds it will depend on the rules of those funds.)
  3. Once an individual has worked for 600 hours in covered and contributory employment during the term of the temporary amendment, the individual will no longer be able to take advantage of this amendment and the normal rules (permitting work in the electrical industry for less than forty (40) hours per month without a suspension of benefits) will apply.
  4. Disability pensioners are not eligible (the existing rules applicable to disabled pensioners remain in effect).
  5. Only retirees who return to NEBF covered and contributory employment will be able to take advantage of this amendment – this amendment will not apply to persons who work for covered employers where no NEBF contributions are required or to persons who work for non-covered employers in the electrical industry.
