PIN PRESENTATION

We realize there was a short intermission from our last pin presentation to now due to various reasons, but we have scheduled a date for this year and hope to see members with 50+ years of service be honored at this year’s event. Whether you get an invitation for your years of service, all are welcome to attend. Invites have been mailed, and the event is set for November 22nd here at the Union Hall in Sacramento. Please be sure if you get an invitation to send us back your RSVP so we may plan accordingly, we would love to get as many honorees as possible.

 

IBEW ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP PICNIC

There is still time to lend a hand at this year’s company picnic, please contact Reyna at the hall via email reyna@ibewlocal340.org or cell 916-539-0412. Our picnic is set for September 20th at the Hagan Community Park starting at 10:30 AM. We hope to see everyone, even if you are unable to help the day of, there will be plenty of food, fun and entertainment. If you have not already sent in your RSVP, be sure to get it in for the member’s only raffle prize.

 

NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION

Reschedule letters have been sent to those who missed our July class. The next scheduled class is set for October 7th at 5PM. All new members are encouraged to attend this highly informative class, many topics are discussed which members tend to ask once they have been in the union for some time. Please mark your calendar and look out for our reminder emails that get sent to everyone a week prior to the class.

 

WOMEN’S COMMITTEE

This October the Women’s Committee are bringing back their well-attended Mario Kart Tournament here at the hall. This event is family-friendly so bring the kids over. The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, October 18th from 1PM – 5PM. If you are interested in attending, please send in your RSVP to ibew340sisters@gmail.com. We hope to see you there.

 

OPERATION CHRISTMAS BASKET RAFFLE

The IBEW/NECA Annual Operation Christmas Basket fundraiser is now underway. Tickets are available for a suggested donation of $1.00 each. The prizes are as follows:

1st Prize – $1,500 cash

2nd Prize – Shotgun

3rd Prize – $250 in lottery scratchers

The kickoff for this fundraiser is going to be held at our October Union Meeting. You may attend the meeting, stop by the hall or see any member who may have signed out books of tickets to sell to purchase tickets for this fundraiser. All proceeds for this fundraiser will go towards purchasing food and toys for Union members in the Sacramento Area who may have had a struggling year this past year and need some assistance in providing a holiday for their families. This has been a long running tradition started years ago by our IBEW Brother Lud Larson and Brother Harry Bain. Help support the cause and also for a chance to win one of many great prizes.

The drawing will be held at the Sacramento Membership/Christmas Dinner Meeting on December 3rd at 5PM. Winners need not be present to win. This meeting is open to all IBEW Local 340 members, both Active and Retired.

 

LOCAL 340 TOY & FOOD DRIVE

Over the past decade, in conjunction with Operation Christmas Basket that helps nearby Union families in ALL trades, we hold our own Christmas Food and Toy Drive specifically for Local 340 members and their immediate families. We will be collecting non-perishable food items and new unwrapped toys at the Business Office starting in October through December’s membership meeting. Feel free to drop off either food or toys to help bring a smile to a Brother or Sister who may need a little extra help this upcoming season.

We realize while others may have had a great year some may have experienced a harder time whether it be with work or personal issues, everyone could use an extra hand once in a while. If you are an IBEW Active member in need of a little extra help with either food or toys or both for your family please reach out to Reyna at the business office via phone 916-539-0412 or email reyna@ibewlocal340.org. This list will be kept discreet and not for public knowledge, please do not hesitate to ask for help if you are in need.

IBEW PER CAPITA DUES INCREASE FOR ALL MEMBERS
This is our last reminder that dues have increased $1.00 per the 40th International Convention effective 7-1-2025 for ALL MEMBERS. Should you happen to send in the wrong amount we will send out notices of any shortages.

VOLT
Local 340’s VOLT with other Skilled Trades is hosting an event called “Speak to Win”. This will be a family friendly event where you can learn to craft a 2-minute testimony that defends our work and strengthens our voice. Although our work involves us to be on the jobsite, obtaining that work starts long before any groundwork breaks, this will be a crash course about getting involved in every aspect of our work. The future begins now with us securing jobs for today and generations to come.

IBEW ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP PICNIC
The picnic is fast approaching, and all invites have been mailed. As the date gets closer and we finalize our count we will send one last evite reminder, please be sure to RSVP before the deadline so your name can be entered into our Member Only raffle prize. NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION
Thank you to all those who attended our New Member Orientation this past month. We had such a great turnout and seen many spouses who helped engage in the discussions. EWMC RIB COOK OFF
The return of EWMC’s Rib Cook Off was such a hit. This year it was paired with VOLT to host a fight night. It was an event we hope to see return next year. Congratulations to 1st place winner Brian Stauffer and 2nd place winner Franklin Alfaro! Thank you to the volunteers and sponsors who helped make this event a great one. IBEW PER CAPITA DUES INCREASE FOR ALL MEMBERS

Per the 40th International Convention basic monthly dues have increased in the amount of $1.00 for ALL MEMBERS effective 7-1-2025. Please remember this when sending in payments to the hall.

 

ELECTIONS

The results are in for all positions and are posted at the hall. I would like to congratulate all those who ran, won or lost, your participation in this election was appreciated. There were many new faces running for office and the eagerness of newer members alongside older members to be involved in this local demonstrated my belief that we as a local will continue to thrive for many years to come.

I would like to take the time to thank our elected Judge and his appointed Tellers for taking time out of their busy schedule to tend to this year’s election. Jon Thompson, your hard work and dedication to ensuring this year’s election went smoothly all while working was much appreciated.

As mentioned in previous meetings and Labor Bulletin articles there will be an increase which was predetermined and approved at the 40th International Convention of $1.00 for ALL MEMBERS effective 7-1-2025. Please be sure that if you pay dues in advance or are on automatic deductions through your personal bank you make the adjustments for the increase. We will continue to send notices with your monthly dues receipts.

As we enter another election year, I would like to remind all members to ensure your contact information is up to date. You may always log onto our website, send in an email, or call the hall to update your mailing address or any other contact information. A mailer will have reached many by the time this is distributed but if you recently moved or forgot to change your address, please reach out so we can provide you with the most up to date information.

The planning continues for this great event. This year our picnic will be held on September 20th at Hagan Community Park. Our venue is secured, food items picked, activities confirmed and will be filling in the gaps with permits and insurances along the way, but help is still needed. Come be a part of this growing committee that is always looking for ways to engage in the community and bring unity within the workplace.

 

RENEW BILLIARDS TOURNAMENT

The RENEW group will be holding their annual Billiards Tournament on June 28th at 2PM. Details are still in the works so be sure to be on the lookout for more information to follow. RENEW will also provide information at membership meetings for their upcoming events.

EWMC

We would like to take a moment to congratulate the newly elected board members on the EWMC held at the April Meeting. Brother Troy Takara President, Brother Geary Silva Vice President, Brother Justin Hill Treasurer. We look forward to working together and picking up the events to come for the upcoming year. The current event on their calendar is a BBQ to be held in July, details are still pending but look out for more information to come in the months ahead. If you would like to attend these growing monthly committee meetings, they are held on the second Wednesday of the month at the Union Hall starting at 5:30 PM.

We have been notified by our International Office that Retired member Jay Carlon card no. D579292 passed in July 2024. He was a 39-year member and 67 years of age.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to this member’s family.

There will be another increase as predetermined as approved at the 40th International Convention of $1.00 for ALL MEMBERS effective 7-1-2025. Please be sure that if you pay dues in advance or are on automatic deductions through your personal bank you make the adjustments for the increase.

END OF THE YEAR STATEMENTS
The year end statements for basic and working dues are available online. You may visit our website IBEW Local 340 and log into your account (please note if you have not logged in prior there is “Tips box” for first time users). Once logged in, the statements can be found under the Dues tab (a dropdown menu will appear) then select 2024 Tax Statement.

IBEW ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP PICNIC
Another year full of plans as we enter a new year for our Annual Membership Picnic. This year our picnic will be held on September 20th at Hagan Community Park. We will continue the tradition of barrel chicken and tri tip along with new comebacks from last year like Gunther’s ice cream and face painting. If you are interested in helping on the picnic committee contact Reyna at the hall via email reyna@ibewlocal340.org or cell 916-539-0412.

WOMEN’S COMMITTEE
This past month the Women’s Committee participated in Habitat for Humanity Women Build. It was a great turnout, the ladies showed out and showed up to help our local community. This special event invites anyone who wants to learn how to build or repair a home to empower women everywhere to address housing issues for themselves, their families and their neighbors and our Women’s Committee was very excited to help take part in such an impactful event. In speaking with Michelle Stoffel, she got to work alongside with the families whose homes they were helping build, “it was truly heart warming and inspiring. It was an honor for us to be able to give back to our community” We look forward to participating again next event.

ANNUAL RENEW CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT
The RENEW group hosted their annual cornhole tournament at our Union Hall. It was a great weekend for fun and friendly competition. RENEW had a total of 9 teams accompanied by family and friends. The winners this year went to 1st place: Thomas Brunette & Devon Nelson and 2nd place: Dustin Sable & Anthony Brunson. Congratulations to the winners and big thanks to RENEW for another great event.

EWMC
EWMC is kicking back up again and is currently holding their monthly meetings every second Wednesday of the month at 5:30 pm. They recently had a sock drive with barrels at both our membership meetings and in the Ju Jitsu facility. They had good feedback for it being the first local event in some time. If you are interested in being a part of this committee, please feel free to show up to any of their monthly meetings here at the hall.

SCHOLARSHIPS (2)
IBEW Local 340 Harry R. Bain Scholarship Award –For Dependents

Congratulations to our winner Arie Nootenboom, son of Matt Nootenboom, who has been awarded this year’s Harry Bain Scholarship Award. His outstanding recommendations, stellar transcript, and beautifully written essay on how Unions contribute to the success of not only the US but his own personal life. He has been asked to read his essay aloud at our August meeting where we will be congratulating him for his efforts.

IBEW Founders Scholarship – For all IBEW members (not dependents)
The IBEW Founders’ Scholarship honors the dedicated wiremen and linemen who organized the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers on November 28, 1981. Each year the officers of IBEW are pleased to offer its working members scholarships on a competitive basis. It is hoped that the awards will not only contribute to the personal development of our members but also steward the electrical industry that our founders envisioned. The award is for $200 per semester credit hour at any accredited college or university toward an associate’s, bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in an approved field. The maximum distribution is $24,000 per person over a period not to exceed eight years.
Any member interested in applying for the IBEW Founders Scholarship can do so by going on-line at www.ibew.org. Click on “Resources and Links” at the top, scroll down to the box labeled “Founders Scholarship”. You will receive information on this scholarship as well as be able to download the application. These applications can also be picked up at the Business Office. This scholarship is for any member who has been in continuous good standing and paid dues (without an Honorary Withdrawal for the four years prior to May 1, 2025). This is not a scholarship for your dependents. All applications and required information must be mailed directly to the IBEW in Washington, DC and must be postmarked May 1, 2025.
