JATC RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD!

The Sacramento Area Electrical Training Center/JATC has been awarded the 2009 Excellence in Training National Award by the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Electrical Industry on behalf of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association.

The award was presented in recognition of outstanding leadership in promoting and delivering skill and improvement training to a number of journeyman level workers that exceeds 75% of the total local union membership.

“This is really a testimonial to the journey men and women of IBEW Local 340 who unselfishly give their time and effort to continuously upgrade their skills,” says Sacramento Training Director, Dennis Morin.  “This award wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of the training center instructors and staff who want to make continuing education an easy and worthwhile experience.”

This National Education and Training Award plaque, which is signed by Edwin Hill, IBEW President, and Rex Ferry, NECA President, is displayed for all members and contractors to view in the Training Center lobby. Congratulations goes out to Training Director Dennis Morin, Assistant Training Director Tom Okumura and all of our JATC Instructors!

LABOR DAY PICNICS – MONDAY SEPTEMBER 6TH

Labor Day, always the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of all American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. This is a day to celebrate and there is no better way to celebrate our achievements than to take your family to a picnic.  There are two picnics scheduled on Labor Day, September 6th as follows:

Sacramento – William Land Park - 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM - Members of all Trades and their families are invited to William Land Park, corner of Freeport & Sutterville Road for a free, fun, family event.  There will be lots of games and food.  Our Local is sponsoring the Texas Hold’em Tournament again this year. $30 donation to play but you must RSVP now to 927-9772 extension 221 to enter the tournament!

Redding – Anderson River Park - 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM  Food, Live Music, raffle, etc. Stop in the Redding Hall or contact Dwight Evans at 530-241-2468 or devans@ibewlocal340.org for details on this picnic and/or to volunteer to help.

MEMBERSHIP PICNIC

Picnic Fliers went out to all Local 340 members for the September 18th membership picnic.  RSVP’s were due back August 20th and we thank those of you who sent them in on time and thanks also goes out to all the members who have stepped up and offered to help out at the event.  Volunteers will be receiving a call from the Picnic Committee real soon regarding your offer! See you all at the picnic!  Also, if you are interested in signing up for the Horseshoe Tournament, Sister Sandi Abbott will have the sign up sheet at the park from 9AM – 9:45 AM. Tournament begins at 10AM sharp so members will still be able to enjoy the picnic that afternoon!

FAREWELL NOTE FROM PRESIDENT LARKINS

With the swearing in of new Local 340 Officers happening at next months’ General Membership meeting, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the Brothers and Sisters of IBEW Local 340 for the opportunity to serve as your Local Union President for the past 3 years. I have always tried to represent the Members of IBEW Local Union 340 in a manner that hopefully advanced not only our mission, but also our image in the community and in political circles.

With the members input and guidance, we got a lot accomplished over the course of the last 3 years and I would hope that you will continue to support your next Local Union President Tom Meredith, as he takes over the reins and guides our Local into the future.

I want to thank the 35 members of IBEW Local Union 340 who volunteered over the last month to assist our Political Action Committee in educating our members as to who our Endorsed Candidates were in the June Primary Election! Local 340 members model the way for other Unions, by our tremendous enthusiasm for volunteering & activism, and I always know that you will always be there when called upon! THANK YOU!

IBEW 340 SOFTBALL TEAM BANQUET

If you had fun at the Softball Team’s Crab Feed in February, you’re going to have even more fun on August 21st at the “All You Can Eat Carnitas & Chicken Pollo Banquet”!  The banquet and raffle will be held on Saturday August 21st at 6:00 PM at the Hall. Cost will be $15.00 per person.  For more information, contact either Art Mendoza @ 916-524-5441 or Tom Meredith @ 916-919-0276.  See you there!

MEMBERSHIP PICNIC

Picnic Fliers will go out in the mail in July for the September 18th membership picnic.  Remember, in order for this picnic to be a success, volunteers are needed to pitch in a little.  The more volunteers we have, the less the rest of them have to work so if you can help be sure to mark that when you send back your RSVP.

THANK YOU!

Once again last month it was Brothers David T. Bianco, Ed Kuntz, Ray Romo and Doug Larson who verified the EIAP timecards.  Thanks Guys!
