Heritage Community Credit Union

Community Credit Union
In 1992 Electrical Worker #340 Credit Union successfully merged with Mather Federal Credit Union adding 1,600 new members to Mather’s base. Expansion efforts continued with the introduction of our Arden Branch in November 1993. In 1994 Mather Federal officially merged with Proctor & Gamble Employees Federal Credit Union—welcoming an additional 1,600 members to the Mather family.

The culmination of these efforts, and our ability to withstand the effects of the closure of Mather Air Force Base, earned Mather Federal the distinction of ‘Federal Credit Union of the Year" as named by the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU). The credit union was also crowned Business of the Year by the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce for its outstanding business achievements and community support.

In early 1997, efforts began to address the issue of Year 2000 compliance. Mather Federal formed a Year 2000 Committee comprised of representatives from all areas of the credit union. Our technological focus includes ongoing efforts to address the Year 2000 issue. On December 14, 1998, we successfully completed 100% of our critical system testing using test dates that range between 12/31/99 through 12/31/01. We will continue to fine-tune and review all testing processes throughout 1999. We fully anticipate being 100% compliant by September 30,1999.

On December 4, 1998, Mather Federal Credit Union members voted overwhelmingly to convert to a Stated-chartered community credit union. With this conversion, membership eligibility was broadened to include individuals who live, work, worship, or attend school in Sacramento County. After careful consideration, the member-elected Board of Directors voted to change the name of Mather Federal Credit Union to Heritage Community Credit Union. This name was chosen for its reference to tradition and strength, and as a tribute to the members who have been instrumental in the credit union’s growth and success over the past 46 years. Effective March 1, 1999, Heritage Community Credit Union completed its conversion and began operating under a State community charter. We look forward to serving both our current and future members with quality products and quality services.

At Heritage Community Credit Union, our commitment to excellence is embodied in our mission statement:

"Heritage Community Credit Union is committed to providing quality service and products to our membership and the communities we serve."

Operating Engineers Federal Credit Union
Mission Statement

Your Credit Union exists to provide economical and beneficial services, which specifically address the needs of our members and their families. Financial services should be provided in an atmosphere of understanding with proper consideration given to safety, efficiency and the continuing need to enhance the strength of our financial structure

History

In 1964 Operating Engineers Local Union No. 3 Business Manager Al Clem spearheaded the effort to create a credit union that could offer Local 3 members and their families a broad range of affordable financial services.

In February 1964 the Credit Union's first official financial report showed assets of $9,682, loans to members in the amount of $2,082 and 243 members. By December, 1964 the Credit Union had grown to $265,562 in assets, had loaned out $236,306 and had 2,931 members. Two services in particular played a large role in the Credit Union's expansion, Payroll Deduction and Vacation Pay transfer. These programs made savings convenient for the members.

From its first home within Local 3 headquarters on Valencia Street in San Francisco the Credit Union has grown to 23 branch offices in Northern California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Hawaii.

Presently, the Credit Union proudly serves more than 74,000 members. Our range of products and services have expanded from just savings accounts to: Checking accounts, Debit cards, Visa's, variety of consumer loan products, Home Equity and Real Estate loans; a 24-hour Touch Tone Teller and an around the clock Internet branch at www.oefcu.org. Total assets as of December 2006 were more than $780 million strong. We have helped our members obtain more than 2.6 billion dollars in low-cost loans and returned more than 340 million dollars in dividends since the Credit Union's first year of operation.

The Credit Union enables union members and their families to show their support for the union movement by banking with a member-owned, 100% union financial institution. By giving members an option for financial services beyond those offered by nonunion for-profit institutions the Credit Union presents members the opportunity to affordably meet both their day-to-day and major financial needs.
